Made in New Zealand, Living in Glasgow!
Whether you've seen me busk on the streets, playing at a bar, or in some other impromptu format, thank you for taking the time. While I've been on the road, I have experienced unforgettable kindness and joy. It doesn't matter whether I've been in New Zealand, Indonesia, or India - music, without much exception, seems to be the great leveler, transcending language, culture, and "cast". Smiles are born .
At this current time, I am working on my "10,000 hours". That is, playing in the public arena as much as possible to improve my craft as a performer. Learning how to relax, learning how to let go. Busking is by far the hardest. The butterflies I get just before singing the first song can sometimes be debilitating. But it gets easier. And people make it so. Moments such as these:
"I'm standing on the street, just across the road from Ubud palace, in Bali. It's just me and my Ukelele, singing songs. It's a busy street. Lots of people. Lots of cars. As each car drives past, windows are wound down, ears are turned my way, and after a few moments, smiles shine from within. A Balinese lady, dressed in full ceremonial clothing approaches me, starts dancing, starts singing an Indonesian song. I improvise some chords. We draw a crowd. EVERYONE IS SMILING. And suddenly, just for a precious moment, we strangers, are all connected. We are all understanding each other. It's not about me or any of them. It's about this musical language that we all understand."
So where am I going with music?
I intend to spend an extended amount of time in Glasgow. I want to form a band. And I want to write more music. I have things to say. If you would like to support my journey, I have two albums and four singles you can listen to on any streaming service. Add them to your playlists!
